On March 12, Jeff and Kelley Kucharczyk’s world changed in an instant. What they thought was a normal season of life turned into a heartbreaking journey when Jeff was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 3 Multiple Myeloma — an aggressive, incurable form of blood cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow. It causes widespread damage to the bones and kidneys.

This cancer doesn’t just weaken the body — it overwhelms the immune system, crowds out healthy blood cells, and changes every part of daily life.

Despite the diagnosis, Jeff is fighting with everything he has. He is undergoing chemotherapy infusion treatments that come with side effects, challenges, and exhaustion. This September, he will face the next intense phase: a stem cell transplant at the University of Michigan, where doctors will work to rebuild his immune system and give him the best chance at something so many of us take for granted — time. Time to live, to love, and to make memories with the people he loves so deeply.

But this journey is long, and the road to recovery is hard. The transplant will require months of healing, frequent hospital visits, and strict precautions. Jeff will be unable to work, and Kelley will need to be fully present to care for him and manage everything that comes with this new reality.
