Support Jeffrey Manthei's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
My father, Jeffrey Manthei, was involved in a motorcycle accident with a semi-truck in Elbow Lake, MN on August 12th. He was critically injured and airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN, where he remains currently. He is now stable and on the long path to recovery but has faced tremendous and traumatic life-altering injuries.
His main physical injuries include above-knee amputation of his left leg, spinal cord injury that caused the left side of his body to be very weak and potentially paralyzed, broken neck, fractured ribs, and other various injuries, some of which have resulted in pneumonia and atrial fibrillation. This does not include the mental trauma he has suffered, and it's becoming evident that some of his cognitive functions are impaired also. He is slowly making progress and is fighting hard each day to get stronger despite all of his pain.
We are trying to remain hopeful that with intensive rehabilitation therapy and longer-term care, he will be able to live a somewhat independent life in the future. Ultimately, we are at the mercy of both time and medical insurance. Jeff is retired and only receives a small social security benefit. His current state medical coverage does not have benefits that will cover the medical care and therapy he will require once he is discharged from the hospital. We are in the process of applying for a state review/certification of disability and trying to get him coverage that will cover the things he needs. It's a lengthy process, and we are running up against time. It's looking like private pay will be required for facilities and care, which he/we simply cannot afford.
Many family and friends have reached out asking how they can help. Any financial contribution would be beyond helpful and appreciated. We appreciate the continued prayers and support. We are thankful Jeff is here with us and has been given a second chance.
Please feel free to share this with others. Thank you and God Bless!
