Hi, my name is Danielle. I am making this to support my dad, Jeff Shope and his recovery. Last week he was at work and his left side went numb. He wasn’t able to speak. He finally got the courage to ask a colleague if he could drive him to the emergency department. As he stood up, he stumbled and an ambulance was called. He was taken to Anderson as a stroke alert. Later that evening, he was discharged. His left side was still not working correctly, symptoms were intermittent, and the CT scan did not show any acute findings. He still couldn’t walk but it was attributed to stress. Fast forward to the middle of the night, he was unable to stand or walk and his symptoms had got worse. He was taken to Indy, a brain MRI was done and it was confirmed he did have an ischemic stroke. Time was lost being discharged and sent home therefore, he was out of the window for TNK (the clot busting medication). He has been in the hospital since. His left side is flaccid besides some feeling in his left leg. His arm is completely useless. He is unable to eat a regular diet. The swallow study showed he was aspirating. He will be transported to a rehab facility tomorrow. He will be off work for an unknown amount of time. He coaches his grandkids sports teams, always involved, never misses my kids activities and on the go. The last thing I want is for him to be worried about being off work. He needs to focus on his recovery. I am sure he will kill me when he sees I made this. He would NEVER EVER ask for help. Thank you for reading his story.
