In honor of Jeannine Haizlip

On Friday, December 20, Jeannine experienced chest pains resulting in a heart attack and was rushed to Penn Highlands Huntingdon (JC Blair Hospital) where she underwent treatment and surgery. Jeannine was able to spend the holidays with her adult children and grandaughter, Zola, while recovering. She found herself back in the hospital and ICU on December 30 after experiencing another heart attack due to the medications administered not working. After welcoming 2020 from the comfort of the ICU unit with the wonderful staff, she was released again from the hospital on January 2. Jeannine is stable and expected to continue to recover but will need to monitor her health and limit stress in order to avoid spending any more of 2020 in the hospital.
As some of you know, the later part of 2019 was a very difficult year for Jeannine and a number of Juniata College employees. Jeannine learned in July that her position with the College was one of many that Juniata needed to eliminate in order to try and balance their budget. Since then, she has been actively doing side work while looking for a new fulltime position. While she has been carrying health insurance, the high deductible is life-shattering for someone who is trying to figure out how to make ends meet.
We are hoping to help relieve Jeannine of a lifetime of medical debt as she works tirelessly to keep her head above water. Her expenses include not only the deductible plus co-pays from 2019 but those from her new insurance (also high deductible) which began January 1, 2020.
