Support Jeannie's Road to Recovery

Hello everyone,

My name is Brooke Josenhans. I am the daughter of Jeannie Josenhans, someone many of you have grown to know and love. On August 21st, my mom underwent a scheduled lumbar fusion and nerve decompression surgery, with the goal of surgery to increase her quality of life and overall physical wellbeing. The plan was for her to walk out of the hospital 2 days later with a betterment in physical mobility, resolved pain, and an improvement in lower extremity sensation. Upon waking from a 8-hour anterior and posterior procedure, my mom had little to no sensation in both legs, bilateral foot drop, severe nerve pain, and the inability to walk; complications that were the furthest of anticipated. These complications led to a 19 day hospital stay followed by a transfer to a facility less than fit to care for or meet her needs. The last month, my mother has shown to be the biggest fighter. Through the rise of neurological medical complications, lack of medical personnel responsiveness to her condition, our family continuously having to advocate for her to regain the slightest amount of independence and maintain personal dignity, a steady decline in her mental and physical health, and resistance from the insurance provider to approve necessary care to improve her wellbeing we, but most important my mother has persevered. After being denied placement to an acute rehab facility where she would receive 3+ hours of physical therapy and rehabilitation per day, my mom was transferred to a lower level facility where, while the staff was amazing, the level of care, amount of physical and occupational therapy provided was far below what’s needed for her full rehabilitation. My mom needs to relearn how to walk, how to learn to be independent again, and learn how to navigate her new “normal”. With all of this said, the facilities assigned by the insurance company aren’t cutting it. We have very limited options moving forward, zero support from insurance but thankfully lots of support from those that love and care for my mom the most. Home health, obtaining in-home physical therapy, and brining my mother home to a therapeutic environment seems to be our last hope in ensuring my mothers physical and mental health doesn’t continue to decline. Our goal is to get my mother healthy, strong, and on the road of recovery. Without a change in care, the future of my mothers life is greatly unknown. My mother and our family are in need of help. Home health is a very expensive avenue to take, but it may be the only avenue we have left in order to save her life. Please consider donating to help get my mom get care she deserves. If some of you don’t know my mom, she is the most selfless individual I know. She has spent her life as a LVN, working with elderly, in hospice, and in home health. She has dedicated her life to providing care to others. She is the person that thinks of everyone over herself. Even in the state of being she’s in now, she’s constantly worried about the mental toll this is taking on her family. My mom has a lot of life left to live, and getting her the best care will offer her the chance to actually live it. Her 14- month old grandson, her family, friends, colleagues need her more than I think she knows.

Anything will help and we sincerely, from my entire family, appreciate even the consideration. Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

God Bless.
