Hello, my name is Alexys. My mom is Jeanna, or what some know her as—“Jinx.” You may (or may not) know my mom from school, the gym we built in Newcastle, as a family friend, from banking, or maybe even from her most recent adventure of middle/high school subbing. A few weeks ago, she and her boyfriend went on vacation to Mexico. Little did they know, it would wind up being the most expensive trip either one of them had ever been on.
A few days before it was time to head home, my mom suffered a seizure that caused her to fall, resulting in a head injury and a lot of blood loss. After finding the ONE doctor able and then paying him in cash, he stitched her back up, and they changed the flight to leave the next day. In that short time frame, she suffered from multiple seizures, which continued to change her level of consciousness and orientation, all while still not receiving any medical attention due to the limited resources. The following day, they denied her the ability to fly home without being signed off by a doctor due to her not being stable enough. After paying in cash for more than 5 ambulance rides ($200+ per trip), multiple doctors to try and assess her who still denied her any treatment, head imaging, any medication, and even $100 cash for one simple set of vital signs, they finally released a form for her to fly. By the time they got back to the hotel to pack up their stuff, she had another seizure that led to MULTIPLE injuries, which then led to even more blood loss. After multiple doctors refused treatment and her suffering from so much blood loss, she was now fighting for her life. We were left with no other option but to pay a private plane to pick her up to get her back to U.S. soil, costing her more than $22,000.
They were able to get her to the closest hospital in Houston, where she was deemed to be in hypovolemic shock—on top of all of her other injuries. While she was in Houston, we opted out of anything that wasn’t life-sustaining until we could get her back to Oklahoma due to her insurance not covering anything out of state. After a week in Houston not covered by insurance, she became vitally stable but still needed surgery. We again had no other option but to pay another private plane an additional $1,000 to get her to Oklahoma since a 10-hour car ride wasn’t realistic.
She has now been in Oklahoma and receiving the care and treatment she needs. However, the surgery she needs has now been deemed as something they can do outpatient. While working on her pain management, keeping her stable, and planning to discharge soon to be able to have surgery, she is left with a crazy amount of medical bills.
As most of her savings have been used to get her back to Oklahoma, her currently being unemployed, left with thousands of dollars in medical bills, and not having any other children but myself, she is left with very little help. So, I am trying to raise money to temporarily get her homed while she is waiting for surgery and after while she is in recovery, to help her with meals and other expenses, as well as any medical bills possible. At this point, anything at all would be more than greatly appreciated as we know she has a long road to recovery ahead. Thank you in advance, and please keep my mother and my family in your prayers.
