On August 3rd, Jeanna and her daughter Katie, were involved in an horrific crash into a tree after overcorrecting. While Katie suffered some minor injuries, Jeanna was transported to VCU where she remains on life support.
She suffered a Type 1 Atlanto-occipital C1-C2 fracture, traumatic brain injury, an open displaced fracture of her femur, tibia and fibula, Multiple rib fractures, severed liver and spleen, damage to her lungs, as well as many other injuries.
Initially, the doctors had not given the family much hope for any meaningful recovery. We believe in the power of prayer and Nick and Katie have shown unwavering faith in their mom’s recovery
Jeanna has had surgery to remove her spleen and partial liver, plus numerous surgeries to salvage her leg, with another scheduled on Friday. She had a halo placed and last week they performed a spinal fusion. She remains in a great deal of pain.
Here is where we have seen miraculous improvement in our girl. The neurologist had little faith it could happen, but she is now moving her legs, some fingers, and can communicate with us. She was moved from the vent to a tracheotomy, so she can mouth what she wants to say.
This is nothing short of a miracle, but, recovery will be months. Nick was unable to work for the first critical weeks and Katie is trying to attend school. Jeanna may be permanently disabled and sadly, bills need to be paid.
Nick has attempted to start social security disability, but this will be months from now before a decision is reached
Please continue to pray for the family and for Jeanna’s ongoing progress and surgeries yet to come. We are prayerful that she will walk again in the future.
Any little bit that you can do can help the family at this time. Jeanna will be unable to work, possibly permanently, and this has been extremely hard on her son with trying to maintain the bills for the family.
