Calling all domestic violence survivors-A Mother’s Plea: Help My Daughter Fight for Her Life After Domestic Violence (11/22 – Saturday)
My name is Jeanette and I am writing this as a mother who is living every parent’s worst nightmare. My daughter is currently unconscious in the ICU after surviving a horrific act of domestic violence. I am sharing her story because she cannot speak for herself, and because we desperately need help as we face the long, painful road ahead.
On Saturday, November 22nd, my daughter’s partner intentionally ran her over with a car. The trauma she endured is beyond what any mother should ever have to witness her child go through. She has been unable to wake up since the attack. Doctors must keep her heavily sedated due to the severity of her injuries, and she remains on a ventilator, fighting to stay alive.
These are the injuries my daughter is battling right now:
A broken leg and dislocated femur
No blood supply to part of her leg, putting her at severe risk of losing it
Multiple emergency surgeries, including partial removal and reconstruction of her colon
A brain bleed
She was scalped, and surgeons had to reattach her scalp
Broken ribs, a fractured pelvis, and a broken neck
Ongoing attempts to restore circulation to her leg; doctors warn she may become an amputee
She has already undergone several surgeries, and more are expected. Every hour seems to bring a new challenge. I sit by her bedside praying, holding her hand, wondering if she will wake up—and what her life will look like if she does.
This happened right at the start of the Thanksgiving season. And while my heart is shattered, I am deeply thankful my daughter is still alive. But we have a long, uncertain journey ahead of us.
As her mother, I wish I could take away her pain. I wish I could carry her through this without needing to ask for help. But the truth is, our family is not in a financial position to support the massive medical bills, the long-term care she will need, or her daily living expenses once she leaves the hospital if she is able to.
My daughter will not be able to work for a very long time, and she will require:
Ongoing surgeries
Extensive physical therapy
Long-term rehabilitation
Possible prosthetic support
Mental health and trauma counseling
Housing and basic living expenses during recovery
Medical equipment and adaptive support
We are calling on domestic violence survivors, advocates, and anyone who can find it in their heart to help us. Even the smallest donation will make a difference in my daughter’s fight for her life and her fight for a future.
This Thanksgiving, while others gather around the table, we are gathered around a hospital bed praying for a miracle. We are thankful she is still with us, but we are also overwhelmed, scared, and in need of support.
If you can donate, share, or simply pray for her, we would be forever grateful.
Thank you for helping my daughter survive.
Thank you for giving her a chance to rebuild her life.
Thank you for standing with us in this unthinkable moment.
With a mother’s deepest love and gratitude,
Jeanette
