Hi
My name is JD (they/them) and I have been running my brand, Dancing Heron, since 2006. During that time, I sold at conventions and other events, helped manage an artist alley, launched a small art walk, started a pop-up market, and now I turn my attention to starting my first brick-and-mortar shop, Grave Raiment Studio!
This is my first time being able to have a physical location dedicated to my work, my print shop, and to feature other local artists all in one place. Thanks to a pop-up program with the City of Portland, I have access to an affordable space for my shop that is right next door to Sinister Coffee in downtown.
Grave Raiment Studio will not only feature the work of my brand but an array of rotating artists, workshops, demos, open studio time where artists can come hang and work, and regular pop-up markets.
But I will need some help financing the start. The space needs new paint and fixtures for product display. I need to build out some equipment, buy merchandise to print on, and all the other smaller incidentals to keep the shop clean and ready.
I will be focusing on acquiring as much as I can second-hand, but some stuff is hard to find or needs to be purchased new.
My current goal is $5000 to help with rent and expenses that will get Grave Raiment up and running.
I know things are really tough for so many of us, but every little bit would be deeply appreciated.
