“Community, Compassion, Family, Friends, and Love are stronger than Cancer”
It is with very heavy hearts that we humbly request your help for my mother, Donna Greenfield Dolbow, and my stepfather, James Dolbow (JD), as they walk their cancer journey together.
In April of 2022 JD received his diagnosis of stage 4 bladder cancer which has metastasized to his pelvic bone permanently altering his life path forward. Since JD's diagnosis he has bravely fought this disease.
He has endured…
- intense testing
- two major surgeries to remove his bladder, prostate, and create a urinary track diversion
- multiple rounds of
-chemotherapy
-radiation
-immunotherapy
-mono clonal antibodies therapies
These treatments for JD's bladder/bone cancer have not been successful and his diagnosis is now terminal - without a cure. The cancer has taken over and damaged his pelvic bone interfering with his mobility. Currently JD is struggling with walking just 10 feet with the assistance of a walker in order to try to remain mobile. As his condition worsens, he will be confined to a medical bed while receiving home care.
The reality of this heartbreaking situation has been intensified for Donna and JD as they face astronomical medical bills. Your donations will assist them as they manage both the accumulated, and future medical bills and expenses associated with JD's treatment. Your support will help the Dolbow family focus on providing the loving, palliative home care JD will require in the months ahead. Their desire is to be present to each other in this time, savoring the precious moments they have with each other and loved ones.
A little reflection from my heart as the step-daughter/daughter to JD and Donna...
JD is a light to all who know him. His positive, generous, and unwavering loving-kindness is a gift to his friends, family, and co-workers. JD has and continues to face his cancer diagnosis with a courageous and positive attitude. He has fought hard and kept his loving heart open and receptive.
As a loving Poppy to my daughter Jade, JD (Poppy) although experiencing pain and discomfort from his condition continues to make space to let Jade know she is loved while spending time together reading stories and watching movies.
My heart is also taking in the truth of the love that my mother and step-father have shared over 18 years. They have walked through seasons of wondrous beauty as they created a life they loved. The blessings and joys of doing life together have not been lost on them...they have lived it well. Yet now they've come into a different season of pain and loss and, again, I've watched them choose love, even in the midst of indescribable suffering. They choose love because of who they are and they have remained committed to one another with loving care and kindness. Above I shared about JD - who he is, how he has loved and fought well - creating a lasting impact on our hearts. And there is another strong presence on this journey - my mother.
My mother, Donna, has a heart, mind, and body drawn towards love. This doesn't just happen...this is a choice. Through many life-altering challenges my mother made the choice to live with a generosity of heart that scatters love's sparkling gems in places that need healing, kindness, and hope. Through her work as a yoga instructor, dance, and drama teacher, she has committed herself to helping others. She guides her students to discover ways they can impact their world for good and invites them to participate in student lead fundraisers. These experiences allow them to see that regardless of age, status, health, or any other designation, each one has the ability to use their energy to share love. For years she has created and participated in benefits, through dance and drama, that help families whose precious children are facing and fighting cancer. Once again, I have witnessed my mother suffer and still choose to send love out into her world. I would love nothing more than to see my mother's loving heart and lifelong passion for helping others return to her and her beloved JD as we consider coming together to carry on the bright light of JD and Donna's choice to LOVE - believing that - “Community, Compassion, Family, Friends, and Love are stronger than Cancer.
Our family is so grateful in advance for whatever you can give. Anything you can donate to help will be a blessing. Your prayers, loving messages and posting to spread their story to your community will be so appreciated.
Our wholehearted thank you for your consideration, prayers and support.
