Hurricane Harvey has shown just how devastating a disaster can be for a community.
Jersey City has nearly 300,000 people in one of the most densely populated counties in the whole of the USA, is bounded on both sides by water and on top of that has all sorts of other disaster threats as well, being right next to New York City.
We remember 9/11 of 2001, the Northeast Blackout of 2003 and Superstorm Sandy of 2012, and will not forget.
At such times our full-time first responders are overwhelmed, and trained volunteer citizen responders are VITAL to save lives and property, to be there for the people of Jersey City on possibly the worst day of their lives.
In Texas, recently we have seen the disabled, the elderly, women in labor, infants in arms and children of every age rescued by trained volunteer citizen responders.
We are embarking on a big expansion of our citizen volunteer emergency responders, our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to meet the numbers that Jersey City needs.
We need funding NOW to equip and train them, so they are ready when needed.
So we are forming, as many CERT teams have elsewhere, a new Not-For-Profit, Resilient JC, to provide a tax-efficient vehicle to allow donors to provide these lifesaving resources so that we are as ready and as prepared as possible for what the future will bring.
To pay for the establishment of the 501(c)(3) and the associated website we need $5,000 asap. Once we have them in place we will launch a broader and deeper fundraising effort, to include major corporations, donors and grants.

ALL monies are overseen by our highly experienced Treasurer, and anything left over after these initial costs will be passed to Resilient JC and used to fund this vital expansion of our trained volunteer emergency responders and associated initiatives to make Jersey City more resilient to disasters and help our emergency response capacity.
