As all of you know Jazzlyn gave birth 9/4 , she had a perfect labor and Zayla was 7lbs 1.5oz 19inches long . The day after labor Friday 9/5 she became ill, the first hospital was very dismissive of her illness and said it was anxiety over becoming a new mother. Saturday morning 9/6 the rapid response team was called as her pulse sky rocketed to 257bmp and her blood pressure tanked , they moved her to the heart side of the unit and hooked her on a Telly monitor to continuously monitor. We still had no answers. Her pulse resting was 130 , she couldn’t walk , she couldn’t move really . Zayla was discharged on Saturday to me . Sunday 9/7 we transferred her to a bigger hospital to the PEDs floor . She stayed on this floor for about 1 hour before they rushed her to pediatric intensive care unit . 9/8 she was diagnosed with sepsis , and group strep A . Her body was shutting down. Kidney failure, liver failure , heart issues , lungs full of fluid , extremely low platelets and hemoglobin. She received a total of 5 platelet transfers along with 5 blood transfusions, and 2 Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) Infusion. 9/9 I received a call in the middle of the night that she was in critical condition and they were going to take her for a hysterectomy. They gave her a MRI prior to surgery , and thankfully her uterus shown no signs of necrosis so they halted surgery . 9/10 things started to turn around , she was still very sick . Unable to walk but her blood values were going up . 9/11 her fourth IV failed so they put in a PIC line , which they tried on one arm 3 times and it looks so horrible with the bruise . They finally placed it in the other arm . 9/12 and 9/13 we turned the leaf , it was a miracle . The doctors said people who come in her condition have a 40-60% mortality rate , and 9 out 10 women with group a strep need a hysterectomy to save their lives . And she got through both of them . 9/14 we graduated from PICU into the PEDs floor , one more step to coming home 9/15 we had been cleared by the doctors with discharge set for 9/16 . Then , she spiked a fever that night and her foot became red and swollen, her white blood cell count was elevated , infection is back . MRI was scheduled, and it did in fact show an infection in her foot . So now we are set for surgery today , they will go in and clear out the infection , start new antibiotics and we are going to pray this is the end of this illness.
I’m saying all this because I’ve been out of work for now 3 weeks , and have been taken off the schedule for the rest of the month . My days are spent at the hospital , and my nights are spent taking care of Zayla . Jeremy is busting his ass at work, being there for the kids at home, and maintaining the household. We try and plan for “emergency’s” but between not working when my mom was in the hospital, and now not working while we have Jazzlyn and Zayla our savings is drained. Along with me not being able to work as I’m taking care of Zayla , Jazzlyn won’t be returning to work anytime soon. We are holding on with one income for now 7 people . So as prideful as I am , I’m asking for help . And at this point anything helps .
I’d also like to add how hard this has to be for Jazzlyn , she has given birth to a beautiful baby girl and hasn’t even been able to spend a night with her . The first week couldn’t even hold her for more than a few minutes. And then to have 3-4 really good days and being told after two weeks she can finally come home only for another infection to arise. It’s been a rough month , I’ll even say it’s been a rough year . So I appreciate all the prayers , love and support you’ve sent our way
