Hi everyone! My name is Jay – a general surgery resident who is passionate about global surgery. My intentions and my professional career are driven by aspirations of providing surgical care in a safe, accessible and affordable manner, as it should be considered a basic human right for all. The Lancet published an article in 2015 estimating that 4·8 billion people, 68% of the world's population, lack access to adequate surgical care. To address this issue, I will be partnering with Operation International, this October, to assist on a surgical mission trip that provides free surgical care to the local population in Techiman, Ghana. To make this possible, our goal is to raise $2,500 on GoFundMe for which all proceeds will be donated to the local hospital and any efforts providing care for their community.
