To All Readers and Those in Our Loving Community:
My name is Michael, and I am organizing this gofundmefor a fellow friend and Long Covid sufferer, J. For personal reasons, J is choosing to remain anonymous. In recent years J has experienced devastating setbacks in terms of his health and his ability to care for himself. While they pursue diagnoses, they have struggled to maintain work, social connections, and basic self-care amid their chronic symptoms. The financial stress of accessing healthcare and services needed for survival has been significant to say the least.
As part of the presentation of his Long Covid, J regularly experiences debilitating migraines that do not respond to traditional pain management. He is further impacted by severe insomnia and sleep disruptions that prevent him from acquiring meaningful rest. All of this is compounded and cemented by Post Exertional Malaise, a hallmark symptom of Myaglic Encephalomyelitis, which dictates that any form of physical, mental, or emotional exertion results in an extreme worsening of symptoms.
J's condition is a living and waking hell, and unfortunately all too many that live with Long Covid these days know what he is going through.
Why J Needs Our Help
The state of treatments for Long Covid is in absolute shambles globally. Six years in, there are still no officially approved tests or treatments. Long Covid clinics are shuttered everywhere across the United States, and it is only the work of a handful of diligent and well-funded researchers that keeps the science and search for treatment moving forward. The lack of guidance from both the government and public health agencies has meanwhile left doctors unable to diagnose the condition, which studies have shown is still reported in 1 out of every 10 patients that experiences a Covid infection. Without our help now, J will be yet another sufferer that is left to fall through the massive cracks left by the COVID-19 pandemic.
J's Request
J is hoping to raise a target goal of $12,000 dollars by this August in order to help stabilize his current living situation. This amount will go towards existing medical debts and living expenses, such as specialized testing, potential treatments, rent, and bills.
