Many of you know the bright and always hopeful Jayne Berens. Her kindness, love, and steady faith in Jesus have touched many lives. If you are reading this, you know the gift she has given to your life. Whether you live in Michigan, Colorado, North Carolina, or are one of her many friends near and far, thank you for reading this.
On January 9, 2025, Jayne was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. This has also caused a blood clot which is delaying necessary surgeries until the clot has passed. Thankfully with God’s help, she was able to secure an appointment with a doctor at Duke University Hospital which is in the top 20 hospitals in the nation, and internationally recognized in the evaluation and treatment of gynecological cancers. She was rushed into the first round of chemotherapy and will have multiple surgeries in the coming months. The doctors are hoping this will slow the spread as they wait for the bloodclot to pass and impacted areas can be addressed. Jeff and Jayne are placing their faith in God once more, trusting that she will be healed again.
As they face this new hurdle in Jayne’s health journey, Jeff and Jayne are asking for multiple channels of support. Prayer and encouraging words are very much welcomed right now and along the path ahead. Jayne has said she can feel them already. Please reach out via email, phone or Jayne’s Facebook page.
Jeff is hoping to be able to take leave to support Jayne as much as possible through treatment and day to day care giving, so they are in need of financial resources to cover medical bills, essential living expenses, and costs for surgeries and clinical trials not covered by insurance. They are in the beginning stages of chemotherapy treatment now, with surgery and additional rounds of chemo scheduled over the next six months.
With any financial support you can offer, Jeff could devote his time to caring for Jayne, walking hand-in-hand with her through the uncertainties ahead, fostering hope and healing in their shared journey.
A brief snapshot of Jeff and Jayne’s past couple of years if you haven’t connected in a while:
Jeff and Jayne recently celebrated 46 wonderful years of marriage, and enjoy every moment they can with their children and four grandchildren. Most recently bringing them together at Tulip Time 2024 to show off her past Dutch Dancing skills. They moved to North Carolina in 2020 where their youngest son, Michael, and his family also live. The decision also provided them with a lower cost of living, allowing Jayne to leave her beloved job at the veterinary clinic to focus on her health. Their greatest desire is to spend every precious moment together, creating memories in their tranquil wooded community that Jayne lovingly calls her “nest.”
Jeff is a building operating engineer for JLL Property Management in Cary, NC. Jeff was grateful to learn recently that his company allows up to 15 months of unpaid family medical leave, if circumstances prove necessary, while maintaining the opportunity to purchase the same health insurance coverage they are receiving now.
Previous to this diagnosis, Jayne spent her days working part-time in the pro shop at a local golf course, a job she truly cherished. The friendships she forged there brought warmth and laughter, and her absence is felt by many as she is unable to work.
They are deeply grateful to feel held and surrounded by the love of friends and family, near and far, and comforted by the presence of God day by day. Thank you for being part of their web of care and support. If you know some one who has been blessed by Jaynes joyful, grateful spirit, please share this link.
P.S. Jayne is already experiencing the devastating effects of Chemotherapy, so she may not be able to answer your questions, but an encouraging email or text would be a blessing.
