Support Jay Kauth's Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
On December 30th, Jay Kauth went to the Emergency Room in Norfolk with intense abdominal pain. After a CT scan, it was discovered he had a suspicious mass and internal bleeding. After stabilization, he was transferred to CHI Immanuel Hospital in Omaha. After more tests, Jay was scheduled for surgery to remove the tumor.
His surgery occurred on January 3rd, during which time a surgeon removed the tumor and three feet of surrounding bowels. He was released from the hospital on January 7th and has been home recovering since then.
On January 20th, Jay completed a PET scan, which is specifically designed to detect cancer cells within the body. Unfortunately, Jay and Amanda were informed a neuroendocrine tumor was detected on his pancreas during that scan, ultimately learning the cancer originated there. Jay has since been referred to UNMC where he will undergo yet another major surgery to remove this tumor. The timeline for this surgery is yet to be determined as he has to reach a threshold of healing from the first surgery. The need for any additional treatment will be decided after the upcoming surgery to remove the tumor from his pancreas.
This diagnosis has been very unexpected for Jay, Amanda, and their daughters. Because the major surgery he has already undergone has required weeks away from work, this second surgery is only going to greatly extend his time away and his ability to provide income for their family in the midst of insurmountable medical bills.
Anyone who has had the privilege of meeting Jay knows that he knows no stranger. He is a dedicated husband to Amanda and father to Hadley and Parker. He is a devoted employee at Black Hills Energy and dedicated to his status as a reserve firefighter for the Norfolk Fire Division. He is a friend to all and has dedicated himself to helping everyone he can. He is a very skilled tradesman and can fix practically anything for anyone.
Jay and Amanda are so appreciative of all of the gestures of love and care they have received in the past few weeks. Let's help ease the burden for their family as Jay has so kindly eased the burdens for so many others.
Thank you in advance for your donations!
