Jaxon and his twin brother Robert both got sick approximately 2 weeks ago. What started as your typical flu-like symptoms progressed into every parent's worst fear. Fevers spiked and vomiting was endless, so we went to the ER. Sent home with Zofran and tried to power through. Robert started getting better, and Jaxon quickly got worse.
Back to the ER and then urgent transport to children's critical care in GR. Unfortunately, the illness left him critically dehydrated, which led to septic shock and a whole host of complications.
After two days on ventilation and heavy IV fluids, Jaxon has been able to have his vent removed and is weaning off his sedation medication. He is improving every hour, but we still have a long journey ahead of us. Current estimated discharge is April 27th.
We live about 40 miles from the children's hospital, so going home and coming back is quickly expensive. I don't like being far from Jaxon, but staying bedside with a second infant in tow is not easy. The social workers here are doing their best to set us up with some assistance, but for now, everything is out of pocket. I'm using what money I had ready to pay bills to be able to stay at my son's side, and missing now 2 weeks of work quickly builds the financial burden. I have gas and electric both due, and rent coming up on the 1st.
If anyone is willing to help keep things covered while Jaxon recovers, it would mean the world to us all.
