I’ve come too far — and worked too hard —and my dream could vanish because of something I can’t control. In just a few weeks, I could lose everything: my education, my visa, and my future. I’m turning to you as my last hope.

Hi, my name is Javona, and I’m a sophomore Biology major at Caldwell University, working toward my lifelong dream of becoming a medical doctor. As an international student, I came here with hope, ambition, and an unshakable desire to serve others through medicine. For the past year, I’ve proudly called this campus home — not just as a student, but as an active member of the Caldwell community.

 My Story

I was raised in a single-parent household by my amazing mother — a compassionate and tireless nurse, in Jamaica, who has spent her life caring for others. Her selflessness inspired me to pursue medicine, and her sacrifices helped get me this far. But now, through no fault of my own, everything is at risk. Due to currency devaluation and economic hardship back home, I am facing a critical financial crisis. I may not be able to enroll in my upcoming semester, which would lead to termination of my student status and the loss of my visa— forcing me to leave the U.S. and abandon the education I’ve fought so hard for. As an international student, I’m not eligible for federal aid or most scholarships. I’ve exhausted all options, and now I’m turning to the kindness of others.

What I’ve Accomplished

So Far Despite the challenges, I’ve worked hard to excel both academically and in student life:

President of the Caribbean Student Union

Treasurer of the Caldwell University Programming Board

Founder of the upcoming “Caldwell University Medical Brigades” — a student group focused on volunteer medical outreach locally and globally

Volunteer Research Assistant in the Department of Natural Sciences I’ve done everything I can to give back, to lead, and to grow — and I’m not ready to stop now.
