To know Javi Bueso is to know a kid who is truly full of life. Whether he’s showing off his skills as a soccer player, solving a problem as a math-wiz, or gathering the family to play a fun game together, Javi has a way of being a ray of sunshine on even the hardest of days.

At a very young age, Javi was diagnosed with a combined type of Leukemia rarely seen in children. He fought hard and initially overcame it, but several years later, the cancer resurfaced, requiring more intensive treatment.

Last year, Javi received a stem cell transplant. While we are so grateful that the transplant successfully cleared his body of Leukemia, the treatment has left him facing severe, life-threatening complications.

Javi is only 9 years old, but he is currently fighting a battle harder than most will face in a lifetime. He has been hospitalized at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford since Christmas, and is currently fighting for his life in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Every single day, he continues to defy the odds and push through the scariest of moments.

While we are fortunate that most of his direct medical care has been covered, the reality is that the financial strain on Javi's family is mounting. Making sure his loved ones can be there to advocate for him and hold his hand is some of the best medicine we can give him. Having his parents by his side 24/7 is crucial, but it has meant spreading the family thin. They have been away from home and Javi's siblings for sometimes months at a time, all while trying to juggle the responsibilities and costs of daily life that simply do not stop despite these circumstances.

A una edad muy temprana, a Javi le diagnosticaron un tipo mixto de leucemia poco frecuente en niños. Luchó con fuerza y, en un principio, la superó, pero varios años después, el cáncer reapareció, lo que requirió un tratamiento más intensivo.

El año pasado, Javi recibió un trasplante de células madre. Aunque estamos muy agradecidos de que el trasplante haya eliminado con éxito la leucemia de su cuerpo, el tratamiento le ha dejado con complicaciones graves que ponen en peligro su vida.

Javi solo tiene 9 años, pero actualmente está librando una batalla más dura que la que la mayoría tendrá que afrontar en toda su vida. Lleva ingresado en el Lucile Packard Children's Hospital de Stanford desde Navidad y, en estos momentos, lucha por su vida en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Pediátricos. Día tras día, sigue desafiando las probabilidades y superando los momentos más aterradores.

Aunque tenemos la suerte de que la mayor parte de su atención médica directa ha estado cubierta, la realidad es que la carga económica para la familia de Javi es cada vez mayor. Asegurarnos de que sus seres queridos puedan estar a su lado para apoyarle y cogerle de la mano es uno de los mejores remedios que podemos darle. Tener a sus padres a su lado las 24 horas del día, los 7 días de la semana, es crucial, pero ha supuesto un gran esfuerzo para la familia. Han estado lejos de casa y de los hermanos de Javi, a veces durante meses, todo ello mientras intentaban hacer malabarismos con las responsabilidades y los gastos de la vida cotidiana, que simplemente no se detienen a pesar de estas circunstancias.
