He is a retired police officer who dedicated his life to protecting and serving others, and now he needs our help more than ever. Earlier this year, he underwent a life-saving kidney transplant, and we were filled with hope for a brighter, healthier future. But shortly after the surgery, he was diagnosed with cryptococcus meningitis, a rare and life-threatening fungal infection that attacks the brain and spinal cord. He has been hospitalized since the diagnosis, and the journey has been incredibly difficult. He has lost over 60 pounds and is now facing serious vision, hearing and mobility challenges, requiring intensive physical therapy and round-the-clock care. Javier is someone who used to light up every room with his great sense of humor. He always found a way to make others laugh, even in tough times. Now, he’s fighting every day to regain his strength, his independence, and to feel like himself again. Watching someone who once stood tall to protect his community now struggle with basic movement has been heartbreaking, but we remain hopeful and committed to helping him recover. Él es un oficial de policía retirado que dedicó su vida a proteger y servir a los demás, y ahora es él quien necesita nuestra ayuda más que nunca. A principios de este año, Javier se sometió a un trasplante de riñón que le salvó la vida, y estábamos llenos de esperanza por un futuro más saludable y brillante.
