Hi everyone, my name is JAS. I’m a 33 year-old non-binary, GNC person living and working in NYC. January 29th, I will be receiving top surgery, an important and long awaited step in my gender affirming journey. I’m incredibly grateful and excited, but I’m also facing a financial gap during my recovery.
I’m raising $3,000 to help cover one month of living expenses and medical recovery supplies while I’m out of work.
I work as a server in New York City and will be able to use a small amount of PTO, but it’s paid at my hourly rate, which is significantly less than what I earn with tips. I’m also a DJ at Henrietta Hudson, a historic and beloved Queer bar in the West Village. Both jobs require physical energy, mobility, and long hours on my feet, things I won’t be able to do during recovery.
These funds will help me cover:
- Rent and bills during my month out of work
- Medical supplies for a safe and comfortable recovery
- Essential expenses while I focus on healing
I’m lucky to have the support of my partner of 11 years and our two cats, but financially we can’t shoulder this alone. Gender affirming surgery is life-saving and life-changing, but it’s also expensive, even with insurance.
