Support Jasper's Recovery from Bear Attack

On Wednesday morning, a terrible tragedy occurred that almost took the life of a beloved pet, Jasper. Before I explain why we're raising money for Jasper, I want to share a little about this incredible dog. Jasper is a beautiful 9-year-old curly-haired Poodle owned by Ginny Kern. He brings joy to Ginny and her boyfriend's family. Jasper has the sweetest face, big beautiful eyes, and the best disposition. He loves everyone and has a calm, kind nature. Jasper even enjoys going on paddleboard rides with his mom! His name, Jasper, means "keeper of the temple," and he has truly been a keeper for Ginny and her mom.

Jasper initially came to Ginny as a service puppy for her mother, who needed assistance monitoring her diabetes. When Ginny and her mom went to look at potential puppies, Jasper jumped into Ginny’s arms and refused to get down. That sealed the deal, and Jasper went home to begin his wonderful life with two great people.

Jasper has overcome challenges before. When he was just a few weeks old, he battled a severe intestinal infection that nearly took his life. With the help of an amazing vet, Jasper successfully recovered. After that, Jasper even picked out his own kitty friend to adopt. Jasper and his feline companion Lunaura are still the best of friends to this day.

On Wednesday morning, while returning from a walk, a black bear suddenly appeared and attacked Jasper. The bear bit him several times while Ginny tried to scare it away. Unfortunately, the bear then turned on Ginny and charged at her, but she managed to get safely back to her home without any injury. After the bear left, Ginny rushed to help Jasper. He was in critical condition with severe wounds and significant blood loss. She hurried him to the vet and hoped for the best.

Jasper has thankfully survived surgery, but his condition is still critical. One of his wounds opened up his abdominal cavity, but thankfully his organs were not harmed. He also has another serious wound that requires healing. Jasper remains in the vet hospital and faces a long recovery. We are hopeful that he will make it through the first few days without complications, but he has a tough road ahead.

Those with beloved pets understand the high costs of veterinary care. While regular check-ups can be planned and budgeted for, unexpected tragedies can quickly deplete savings. With Jasper's severe injuries, the resulting bills are expected to be substantial.

I kindly ask anyone who can to consider contributing to help Ginny save Jasper. No amount is too small, and if you are unable to donate, please share this so others may help. Right now, Ginny needs to focus on Jasper’s recovery without worrying about how to pay for his medical expenses and medications.

To those who choose to help Jasper, we cannot thank you enough. Your kindness and generosity will make a meaningful difference.

I will provide updates on Jasper’s condition as his recovery progresses. Please keep Jasper in your thoughts and prayers, no matter what you decide to do.

Thank you!

UPDATE: Jasper made it through the night in the hospital and was allowed to come home. The Vet thought he would do better healing with his family. Please keep in mind that Jasper did not provoke this bear. He was attacked without even realizing what was going on. Poor sweet boy has two stapled wounds, one of which is where the bear opened up Jasper’s abdominal cavity. To make matters worse, the bear kept biting Jasper so he also has about 20 puncture wounds. He seems to be in good spirits but he’s got a long road ahead or him.

If you can, please consider donating to help cover Jasper’s medical bills and/or sharing his Go Fund Me. Every little bit helps!
