Support Jasper's Fight for Recovery After Brain Surgery
Donation protected
My 14-year-old nephew, Jasper, has Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome. This is a rare syndrome resulting from a genetic mutation which affects only about 1,500 people in the world. One of the characteristics of this syndrome is epilepsy, and Jasper has a very aggressive form called Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. He has widespread seizures many times a day, and it affects all aspects of his life.
Jasper recently had a stereotactic encephalogram (holes drilled into his skull and electrodes placed on and in his brain to find the main sites of his seizures) in order to prepare for future brain surgery to remove brain tissue and permanently reduce his seizures.
His recovery from his recent procedure has been more challenging than expected. In addition to a week in the hospital post surgery, he has been readmitted to the HDV Children's Hospital three times in the last two weeks for severe nausea, vomiting, and eye problems. He rarely can eat and sleeps much of the time. It is likely that Jasper will be transferred to a rehab facility for further recovery.
My brother, James, needs to remain with Jasper for the duration of his recovery. In addition to Jasper's health concerns, it is difficult for Jasper and James to be away from the rest of their family while travel expenses are accumulating and work is missed.
All of this considered, we would like to alleviate some of the financial burden from this unanticipated hardship and invite you to share in this effort. Thank you in advance for your help and please continue to commit Jasper, James and their family to God in prayer. Pray that Jasper returns to his baseline health soon and their family can be reunited at home!
