Support Jason's Liver transplant journey and recovery

We are asking for your support for my cousin during an incredibly difficult time.

On July, 2007, Jason came into this world as we thought to be a healthy boy. Within a few days of life, his liver was not working correctly. He was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia and needed an emergency surgery called Kasai Procedure. The surgery showed progress and his liver seemed to be moving in the right direction but doctors have always informed my aunt that he will need a transplant someday.

For many years, Jason’s body has fought to keep his liver as healthy as possible. He had multiple hospitalizations, strict diets, unbearable pain, bloodwork, ultrasound, endoscopy, MRI, and biopsy. He has fought hard for years and has been a very strong cousin but unfortunately, his liver started to deteriorate in the past three years. Two years ago, the transplant team decided that it was time to place him on the transplant list as his liver had so much scar tissue (cirrhosis) that blood wasn’t filtering through efficiently. This was putting extra pressure on other organs and can ultimately put stress on his heart and lungs. He had an enlarged spleen, Cholangitis, Esophageal varices, Ascites, high Ammonia levels which made him really tired. For a number of years, Jason has been battling multiple autoimmune illnesses that attack his liver. He has felt weak, with no energy, lots of pain, poor appetite all while going through the most important time of his life, high school. Despite everything he has gone through and things being twice as hard for him, he graduated High school on May, 2024 with an Associate degree in Biology and got accepted at DBU. He was excited and was looking forward to the next step of his life while waiting for the right match. Jason began to prepare for college but suddenly he received the news that he has been waiting for. A gift from GOD.

On June 15, my aunt received a call that they had found a perfect match for him. They were excited and scared. This was going to be a MASSIVE surgery. On June 16, Jason received his liver and is now recovering. His life has not been easy but hopefully, it will get easier with his new liver transplant. As you can imagine, the recovery period will be crucial. He will have no immune system as many drugs will be prescribed to prevent the new organ from being rejected. My aunt has never asked for help, she has worked hard to make sure Jason had what was needed but they will have so many big expenses they were not prepared for especially because she will be taking time off to care for him. I am raising funds to help them with insurance costs, copays, food-safe meal preparation, transportation, therapies, and medication (that are extremely costly even with insurance) so that she can focus on his care.

Please help us spread the word about Jason’s story and share this campaign with your friends and family. Anything will help please spread this story as much as you can. Your support means everything, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and generosity.
