Hello, I'm Jason Griffith. I have been battling cancer for the last ten years. I have an appointment next month at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, on March 25th. While I do receive VA healthcare, they do not cover my travel and hotel expenses upfront. I will need to be there for at least seven days: two days for travel and five days for my initial consultation.
I need to arrange for a hotel, food, gas, and any other expenses that may arise. I have squamous cell carcinoma as well as head, neck, and throat cancer. It is possible that during this visit, they may determine that I need surgery, which could extend my stay.
My mother will be traveling with me as my guardian and caretaker. I am less than a month away from this life-changing—and hopefully life-saving—trip. My previous doctors at KU Med essentially suggested I take pain medications and give up. The care I received there was inadequate, and MD Anderson is considered the best of the best.
As many of my friends and family know, I am not done fighting for my life. I am a father, son, brother, and friend, and the people in my life deserve for me to be there for them. I am determined to continue this fight; I just need help getting from Kansas to Houston.
I am an Army veteran with 14 years of service and four combat tours from 2004 to 2011.
