Updated: Help Jason Rebuild After a Devastating Kansas Tornado
On May 19, 2025, a powerful tornado tore through Plevna, Kansas, leaving behind a trail of destruction—including the complete devastation of my brother Jason Wingert’s home and property.
The storm blew out windows, allowing the tornado to literally enter the house. Everything inside was tossed around as if in a giant blender. The roof and chimney suffered major damage, and multiple vehicles—including a cherished collector car passed down from his late father were hit hard. Most concerning, we’ve since discovered severe structural damage: fractures in the foundation that run the entire perimeter of the home.
Thankfully, Jason is safe. But the damage is overwhelming—and to make matters worse, he didn’t have homeowner’s insurance. FEMA assistance isn’t available either, as the storm damage in his small town didn’t meet the federal threshold for aid. Jason is now working with United Way and contractors to assess the full scope of damage and determine whether the home can even be saved.
Initial Repair Estimates:
• Foundation repair: $8,000–$15,000
• Roof replacement: $10,000–$15,000
• Window replacement: $2,000–$5,000
• Additional essential repairs: $3,000–$10,000
Estimated Total: $23,000–$45,000
What Your Early Support Has Already Helped With:
Thanks to initial donations, Jason has been able to:
• Board up broken windows
• Cover the roof with tarps and plastic sheeting
• Begin clearing debris from both inside and outside the home
These were vital first steps—but there’s still a long road ahead. Depending on what future inspections reveal, we may even need to explore alternative housing options, such as a travel trailer, if the home proves unsalvageable.
Any donation—no matter the size—or simply sharing this campaign can make a meaningful impact. Your support, kindness, and encouragement mean the world to us during this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you for helping Jason take the first steps toward rebuilding his life.
Sincerely,
Lalaina
