Fighting for Custody and Stability for My Daughter

Hi, my name is Jason. I’m a proud father of three — two sons and one amazing daughter. Right now, I’m in the middle of a very difficult divorce and facing the fight of my life: securing custody of my daughter to ensure she is safe, stable, and protected.

This is not about attacking my soon-to-be ex-wife. However, she has a documented history of serious mental health issues and previously lost custody of her three other children. There is a clear and troubling pattern, and my only concern is doing what’s best for our daughter.

Currently, I have custody of both my daughter and my younger son. A Temporary Protective Order (TPO) is in place against my soon-to-be ex-wife due to concerning behavior. Despite all this, she has not contributed anything toward supporting our daughter and has moved in with another man and his child, leaving me to manage everything on my own.

A Guardian ad Litem has recently been assigned to our case. After reviewing the situation, the Guardian has ordered that I undergo a psychological evaluation with a specific doctor. The cost? $3,400 — upfront. No payment plans, no sliding scale.

Here’s the reality:

• I’m covering all the household bills

• Paying for a car she is using

• Still responsible for two loans in her name

• I have no financial help and no extra money at the end of the month

My lawyer has made it clear: if I don’t complete this evaluation, I risk losing custody of my daughter. That’s a risk I cannot take.
