This is my brother-in-law, Jason Burgess. He was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 GBM (Glioblastoma), which is a type of brain cancer. It causes memory problems, headaches, nausea, and personality changes. In my brother-in-law, where it is located, it is causing problems with his hearing. If they were to remove the entire tumor, it could completely wipe out his ability to understand what he hears, his speech and his eyesight so they are leaving a portion of it but will be doing surgery, radiation, and chemo to try to slow its growth as much as possible.
I started this page because Jason is the primary earner in this family. He works full-time as a Golf Course Mechanic/Assistant Superintendent. The company he works for has been very generous with his sick time so far, but actual treatment has not begun yet. There will come a time that he will not be able to work. In addition, my sister Karen works from home doing grocery delivery. If she is taking him to his appointments and caring for him, she is not making money and is also incurring the extra expenses of gas, parking fees, and additional meals away from home. She has no insurance or work coverage FMLA. She is only paid if she is taking orders to people.
They also have a grandson, Kaden, that they have been raising since birth. He is now 14, and with my sister not cooking as much, they are also incurring additional takeout meal costs.
GBM is a very aggressive brain tumor that can't wait for treatment. This isn't something that can wait until they have the money to cover it like a broken tooth or repair surgery. This is something that has to be dealt with NOW. It doesn't matter that they just got married. It doesn't matter that they both bought new vehicles in the past three years. It doesn't matter that Kaden isn't old enough to be left alone all night to fend for himself.
I started this GoFundMe page to help them cover the additional expenses that they are incurring as well as the deductibles, coinsurance and copays that are coming up every time they turn around, which have already reached into the $1000s.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
