Jason is a remarkable man. He is a devoted father and partner, kind and courageous, a rabid Oregon Ducks football fan, sasquatch searcher, social service worker, a champion for those with disabilities through his work at the Pearl Buck Center, dog dad extraordinaire, Rush fan #1 and so much more.
At only 54, Jason received the devastating news of the diagnosis of stage IV Cholangiocarcinoma. This is a rare and very aggressive form of cancer commonly known as bile duct cancer that has formed in the duct and spread into his liver. There are only 8.000-10,000 cases a year in the entire United States. Due to the urgency and seriousness of Jason's cancer we have created this page for everyone to rally behind him so he can get help during this difficult time.
Just one month ago, life was normal. Now Jason is facing a long battle ahead. He is dedicated to fighting this cancer and we are working with doctors at Willamette Valley Cancer Institute as well as consulting with OHSU specialists in getting the best possible treatment.
OHSU in Portland, Oregon has already asked to include Jason at their facility due to the rarity and to have the opportunity to study his case. We are fundraising to help cover the cost his insurance will not(which are significant) and working closely with a financial advisor within OHSU to make sure Jason gets the care that this particular cancer demands.
The nation-leading treatments combined with the specialist in this particular cancer available at OHSU have a very real chance at saving his life.
We will be regularly updating everyone on his progress, treatments and most importantly, whether Jason goes BALD or not :)
