Update 4/17/25: Surgery went longer than expected because his herniation was more severe than they had anticipated. He cannot pull, lift, or push anything heavier than 10lbs. He also cannot bend or twist. So he is still limited on what he’s able to do. He is sleeping better. He can walk without crutches or a wheelchair (just a bit slower). Jason and I want to thank those who have been supportive through prayers, checking in on us and financially. It means a lot. This bump in the road has been quite the bump, but we’re overcoming this hand in hand.
Hi. I’m Brandi Ensz. I’m usually not the kind to ask for help. My husband, Jason Ensz, had a recent injury leading up to him not being able to work since the 14th of this month. He is needing Microdiscetomy Surgery and we have it scheduled for next month. The recovery for that surgery will be 6 weeks. We’ve been traveling to Durango, Colorado, for appointments for him, and that’s been adding up pretty quickly. We would greatly appreciate any kind of help.
For those who have been wondering how this happened: It was just a normal regular day at work for my husband. He was out doctoring up a calf and had bent over and felt a pop that about dropped him to the ground. He managed to find a way to get to his pick up and drive to his father’s house (Roger Ensz). His dad then took him to the ER and while on the way I received a call from Jason stating that he was on his way to the ER. I met them there. They took X-Ray’s and an MRI at our local hospital (Rio Grande Hospital). We received the results from the ER doc on call at that time. He stated it was a Labrum Hip Tear (cartilage), that we needed to make an appointment with UCHealth in Colorado Springs with the Orthopedic Doctor. I then called and was seeing when we could get Jason in for an appointment. They told us the soonest appointment available would be April 28th (just for a consultation). We knew that wouldn’t work (we did tell them to put us down in case we could not find anything else) I called around more and we were able to get Jason an appointment with Mercy Hospital (Durango). They day of Jason’s appointment in Durango finally came and his doctor took one look at him, did some further physical examinations and said it’s not your hip, but your back. So she referred us to Colorado Spine there in the hospital. That appointment day came and did more X-rays and MRI. The results came in and she told us that L2-S1 were not in great shape. He has 3 bulging discs, and ruptured one. He has a disc pressing against his nerve and is lodged back in there. That’s why his left leg is unresponsive and has no feeling in some areas. He’s able to get up and stand (only able to do for 1min) daily activities are a struggle, doctor told him no driving any motor vehicles, no bending, no twisting, no lifting anything over 5lbs. The only place of comfort for him is his recliner. He’s moving around with crutches (very slowly) or being pushed in a wheelchair.
