Support Jason, Emily, and Ellie in Hurricane Recovery
Donation protected
Jason, Emily, and Ellie are raising funds to help with rebuilding/replacement expenses due to Hurricane Helene. Like many in Western North Carolina, we suffered catastrophic damage to our home and property related to Hurricane Helene. Our home is currently not livable due to two large trees falling on the house.
Due to the overwhelming damage in the area, recovery is moving slowly. The trees were only recently removed and the house tarped up, but things like removing dampness and cataloging items have not begun.
The understandable lag in response has led to further damage and mold and mildew growth in the home. Many of our belongings are unreachable due to caved-in ceilings. Our furniture and larger items that were initially unaffected are now being exposed to moisture and mold. We are still waiting on the insurance company to begin these next steps. We also know that there is other property damage that will not be covered by insurance.
This has left us in a major holding pattern of what to do next. We are temporarily in an Airbnb and will be moving shortly into a longer-term rental. We really don’t know what the next year holds in store, but one thing we are certain of is that we will be out of our home for a long time. Thank you to all family, friends, and colleagues from near and far who have reached out offering help. We feel the love and know there are so many people in our corner. This GoFundMe feels like the easiest way for us to navigate the short term, replacing what we need as we understand what our needs are and looking ahead to future expenses. This has been a surreal experience that is hard to explain, and it is my most fervent hope that Asheville and our family can make a full recovery.
