Dear Friends/Family/Prayer Warriors
On August 6, 2025 after a routine Dr. visit for Jason it was clear something was “off” with Jason.
Jason and I mentioned to the Dr. that for a week 1/2, Jason had been struggling with finding the correct words to use in sentences and number recollection was also a real struggle.
For a 53 year old man who has had zero health problems, this was quite concerning. The Doctor stopped immediately and administered a cognitive test. He walked Jason through every step.
It became IMMEDIATELY evident that he needed a MRI and CT scan that day.
Heaven and earth was moved to get us in to a local hospital to get the tests done immediately. I cannot tell you all the miracles we saw happen this day.
The MRI & CT scan immediately identified & determined that he had a very large brain tumor. We did not know if it was benign or malignant.
Our primary Dr was so proactive and called ahead, handed us the necessary paperwork and sent us immediately to Lexington, KY University of Kentucky ER.
Upon arrival to the ER we were accommodated in a room and more MRI’s and other tests and blood work were ordered and performed.
Jason was admitted to University of Kentucky Hospital Aug 6, 2025. We began meeting with many Dr’s and specialists in the neurology, radiology and oncology depts. Surgery was scheduled to remove the large brain tumor.
We stayed 5 nights in the hospital and they began administering massive amounts of steroids and anti-seizure medications via IV to reduce the swelling that was occurring on his brain. It was pushing on the part of the brain that affects speech.
August 11, 2025 Jason underwent brain surgery to remove the mass. Then the waiting game began to find out what type of tumor it was. We kept praying it would come back benign. That would NOT be the case.
Pathology confirmed it was a very high grade, aggressive cancer, but we still had to wait for verification on what exact type of tumor it was.
We had consultations with Oncology and Radiology, all while still not knowing exactly what kind of tumor it was.
Yesterday August 28, 2025 we received the call from the oncologist that we are dealing with the highest grade Glioblastoma. It’s a very aggressive cancer that reoccurs and is terminal.
Jason begins chemotherapy and radiology that will run concurrently within the next 2 weeks. We have been given life expectancy information, but that is not something Jason is willing to share.
This diagnosis is NOT what we wanted to hear. But God is faithful to carry us through. We are choosing to stay focused on praying for healing. We are trusting the Lord’s sovereignty and we are drawing close to him for daily strength. We feel all the prayers being sent our way. THEY ARE SUSTAINING US! WE FEEL THEM AND COVET THEM. KEEP THEM COMING.
So many friends/family have already blessed us in so many ways and for that, we are speechless and beyond grateful.
Many have asked what they can do to help us during this tumultuous time and the first thing is prayer! We would covet your prayers during this time.
The second is to assist with financial burdens that have arisen and will not cease. If you feel led to give monetarily, we will use every cent for Jason’s care, as he is our sole income provide for myself and our son Luke.
This next part is VERY hard for me to say, as I’m used to being the giver, not the taker. It’s hard for me to ask for help. That’s just how God wired me. However, He IS telling me very clearly, “set aside your pride and let those with different talents and resources HELP YOU.”
I’m being obedient to His calling, but I’m still not saying this is easy.
Several people suggested that a GoFundMe page be started to help us with the astronomical bills that are already coming in and will continue as he begins the first phase of treatment.
Bills are coming in (already) I know that this blessing would be life changing. But, if you are not able to contribute in this way please just pray for us.
Thank you for your prayers and for walking this road alongside us. It is a gift to have been blessed by such amazing people who love us and have shown it in such tangible ways.
God is a good God and when we are weak, HE is strong. We have seen so many ways that God has blessed us throughout the last few weeks and for that, we are blown away.
God will use Jason’s journey for His good and will turn this into an amazing testimony. We are at peace and that is only from God. It is a peace that passes all understanding.
My sister Brooke Stone is starting this GoFundMe page on our behalf and she has not left our side for one second. She is completely trustworthy and all funds will go directly towards helping ease this immense financial burden. Jason is on medical leave.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers and generosity. We you all.
Jason, Heather & Luke Rice
