Help Jasmin Lopez Prove the Doctors Wrong—She's Walking Again

My mom, Jasmin Lopez, has always been the life of the party. Infectious laughter, dancing energy, the kind of person who lights up every room she enters. She's also the adventure-taking, laughter-making mom to my two little brothers, ages 10 and 6, who are waiting for her to take them exploring the world again.

On February 16th, 2024, a devastating 20-foot fall from a porch fractured her T11 and T12 vertebrae. Four days later, on February 20th, she underwent emergency spinal surgery that left her without sensation in her lower body.

The doctors told us to "get accustomed" to where she is. That injuries like this don't usually allow for walking again.

But they don't know my mom.

Since surgery, she's stunned her medical team by standing on her own and doing most things independently—defying every limitation they expected. Her spirit hasn't dimmed for a second. Even now, she's the same uplifting force she's always been, proving that her body might be relearning how to move, but her will to dance through life never left.

Right now, she's in the critical window where intensive physical therapy can mean the difference between progress and plateau. But here's the reality: government assistance only covers one month of therapy. After that, she's on her own to continue the exercises that are reconnecting her neural pathways and rebuilding her balance.
