Hi, My name is Jasmine! I have the opportunity to study abroad in South Korea this summer through the WorldStrides Veritas Christian Study Abroad Program at Korea University, and I honestly still have moments where it doesn’t feel real.
This program is an incredible chance for me to grow academically and personally while experiencing life in a completely different culture. I’ll be studying at Korea University, taking courses alongside other international students, and learning through daily immersion in Korean culture, language, and community life. I’m expecting a lot of learning, a lot of adjusting, and probably at least one moment where I accidentally embarrass myself in public while trying to figure out how to navigate everything—but I’m excited for all of it.
What makes this opportunity especially meaningful to me is that it goes beyond academics. As part of the program, I’ll also be serving with local churches and communities in South Korea. This includes involvement in ministry work and outreach efforts, particularly supporting initiatives connected to sex trafficking awareness and restoration ministries. This is something that has deeply impacted my heart, and being able to learn from and serve alongside people already doing this work is something I don’t take lightly.
For me, this trip is not just about travel or education—it’s about growth, service, and obedience to what I feel God is leading me toward. I know it will challenge me in ways I can’t fully prepare for right now, whether that’s stepping into unfamiliar environments, adapting to new cultural expectations, or learning how to serve in situations that are both heavy and important.
I also know it will stretch me personally in everyday ways—like figuring out public transportation, adjusting to a new language, and trying not to rely too heavily on Google Translate when ordering food (although I fully expect at least one confusing meal situation).
At the core of it, I’m grateful. Grateful for the opportunity, grateful for the support that has gotten me this far, and grateful for the chance to learn how to serve others while growing in my own faith and purpose.
This experience is something I believe will shape not just my summer, but my future direction in life.
