Support Jasmine's Family in Their Time of Need

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jasmine Sanchez. I’m a single mom doing my very best to care for my two children—Mario, who is 17, and Liana, who is 11. Life has been far from easy, but we’ve always found ways to push through, together.

I am disabled and currently living with multiple serious health conditions. Right now, I’m going through the evaluation process for a heart transplant. Because of my health, I am unable to work so I’m currently living on a fixed income. I’ve always tried to do everything I can for my family, but this situation I am facing is more than I can handle on my own.

I receive Section 8 housing assistance, which has been a lifeline for us. Recently, my voucher was upgraded from a two-bedroom to a three-bedroom—and that change wasn’t just a convenience, it was a medical necessity. Some of you may know, I have a life-assist device that keeps me alive due to my heart condition, and this requires its own space for safe and proper use. And once I receive a heart transplant, I will need a separate room for recovery, doctors orders. Currently, I’m staying in the living room, because I’ve given my two children their own rooms. This arrangement is far from ideal and isn’t sustainable for my health and recovery needs.

We were just approved for a three bedroom home here in Livermore. I’m gathering and signing documents at the moment to move forward. But I’m struggling to have to come up with the first month’s rent to secure it. If I can’t move into this new home soon, I may be at risk of losing our Section 8 voucher altogether. That would leave us without housing support at a time when we need it most.

The goal amount for this GoFundMe is specifically to cover the full first month’s rent for our new home. Because of how Section 8 works, the Housing Authority is still obligated to pay the rent for my current residence through the end of August. Since I’m planning to move out some time before August 31st, they won’t begin paying rent on the new unit until September 1st. That means I have to come up with the entire first month’s rent somehow on my own within the next two weeks or so.

I was hesitant to make a GoFundMe. Asking for help doesn’t always come easy, but with everything going on, and no ability to earn income due to my health, I’ve run out of options. My son, Mario, has been actively searching for work to help support our family, but so far hasn’t had any luck.

A safe place to live is all I want for my children and myself, especially as I face the long road ahead with my health.

If you’ve read this far, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Any donation would be a tremendous help, it means the world to us.

With love and gratitude,
Jasmine Sanchez
