You might know Jasmine as the quiet, little artist with the contagious laugh — the one that bursts out in fits she usually can’t hold back. She’s an artist from Kansas City, known for her murals and paintings that draw from her own life experiences, such as dealing with a disability from a previous stroke. Recently, Jasmine became very ill in early September with a rare brain disease.
What seemed like a headache turned serious, leading to severe brain swelling and encephalitis and landing her in the Neuro ICU. Encephalitis is brain inflammation, usually caused by infections like viruses, but also by autoimmune conditions. The cause behind Jasmine's condition is unknown at the moment. She’s currently undergoing further testing, including samples being sent to the Mayo Clinic for answers.
After a recent seizure and complications from the swelling, she remains hospitalized and unable to work. Jasmine has faced health challenges before — but this new illness has been especially difficult.
As the daughter of Ms. Tracy Ali, a beloved local art teacher, and Mr. Mikal Ali, a talented designer and creative mind, Jasmine grew up surrounded by art, imagination, and community. Their influence is reflected in her own work — full of heart, color, and authenticity.
She’s a full-time, hardworking artist who’s been supplementing her everyday bills by working part-time at a local business — but without medical benefits, the hospital bills are already overwhelming, even as we apply for financial assistance.
Funds raised will go toward:
• Hospital bills and ongoing treatment
• Rehabilitation and therapy after discharge
• Transportation and medical supplies
• Basic living costs while she’s unable to work
Our family is doing everything we can to support Jasmine through this long and challenging recovery. Jasmine’s heart has always been for others — now it’s our turn to be there for her and help her get the care and support she needs every step of the way.
