Our friend Jarrett Lyons just turned forty and was hoping his biggest crisis this year would be something minor, like dealing with tourists at the smoke shop. Instead, he has been navigating a diagnosis of Atrial Fibrillation and months of symptoms that have kept him from working. If you know him, you know how much that part hurts. Jarrett is the guy who cannot sit still when someone else needs help, and not being able to contribute at home or at work has weighed on him more than he will ever admit.
Even through all these health issues: he has still shown up for the people around him. Jarrett is an easygoing, comical, slightly sassy presence in this community; always ready with a sarcastic one-liner, a joke when things are heavy, and can always be counted on for honest and heartfelt advice, that lands exactly at the right times. He is well known for his years of working at the smoke-shop and bartending in Astoria at Hong Kong, and is the person you talk to when things get rough…because he genuinely shows up.
On November 26th, 2025, while helping a co-worker move into their new home (because of course he was), Jarrett went into cardiac arrest and then Ventricular Fibrillation. He had to be resuscitated at the scene and was life-flighted to Portland. He is now working closely with his medical team, awaiting procedures, and trying to recover while doctors determine the best treatment. He is in good spirits, cracking jokes and trying to be a ray of sunshine for his care-team, but ultimately; he needs support right now in any way, we as a community can offer.
This emergency, paired with months of lost income, has created a significant financial and emotional strain on Jarrett and his partner Amelia. They have a home and two pups to care for, on top of travel costs, medical expenses, and everything else that doesn’t pause just because they are in the hospital. Funds raised, will be utilized for these expenses as they pop up.
For transparency of why I am fundraising; we have been coworkers for about 13 years and have become friends over time! Jarrett has asked me to manage updates so he can focus on healing and working with his care team. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting in any way you can. Every donation, every share, and every message truly matters and will help lighten the load for Jarrett and Amelia in the days and weeks ahead.
The smoke-shop family is also working on putting together a spaghetti feed, we will keep the GoFundMe page updated when we get all our ducks in a row.
(If you don't want to donate online, cash donations can be accepted for Jarrett at Under the Bridge Cigarettes, Seaside Tobacco Outlet and Sea Breeze Roadhouse!)
