On February 28, 2026, Jarred was involved in a serious rock climbing accident on Dark Shadows Wall in Pine Creek. During the climb, he suffered a fall of 40+ feet, shattering his climbing helmet on impact, and resulting in severe injuries to his neck, back, and spine.
Jarred was on a route called Dream Safari, which is above another route called Risky Business. Since the route that he was on was an extension of another, this put him 600' above the ground. The rescue effort was complex and took seven hours in total. We are so sincerely grateful for the quick actions of Jarred's climbing partner, as well as for the dedication and monumental efforts of the SAR team. Search and Rescue responders carefully extracted Jarred, and he was airlifted by helicopter for urgent medical care. He spent time in the ICU and is now beginning what will be a long and challenging recovery.
Jarred will need to spend several months in a halo brace while his spine and neck heals, followed by extensive rehabilitation. His recovery timeline is still uncertain, but it will require significant medical care and therapy.
For many years, Jarred and his wife Sarah have been active and dedicated members of the climbing community. In addition to his passion for climbing, he has contributed his time to trail work and route maintenance, helping care for the places he and others love to climb. If you don't know Jarred personally, he is someone who values curiosity, hard work, and adventure. He cares well for others, is an encourager, and loves to share his love for nature, art, and travel with those around him. He is silly, incredibly funny, and he has a laugh that’s contagious. Jarred is deeply dedicated to the causes and people that he loves. He is a loved husband, brother, son, uncle, and friend.
Right now, Jarred’s focus needs to be on healing, staying strong, and rebuilding his health. This fundraiser has been created to help ease the financial burden of medical bills, rehabilitation, and recovery so he can concentrate fully on getting better.
Any contribution—large or small—will make a meaningful difference, and it is truly appreciated. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page with others is another powerful way to support Jarred and Sarah during his recovery.
Thank you for your support, encouragement, and kindness.
