As if the physical ordeal of cancer is not enough, Janique must keep herself and her family afloat financially. Your donation will keep her, her teenage daughter Charlie, Eddie the Cat and Eli the Dog housed and safely back on the road to recovery.
Financially, this year has been a nightmare; one that no one should have to go through. In February 2025, a rearing horse broke Janique’s right foot while working at a horse farm (this should have been her dream job, right???). She then learned that her employer did not have (legally required!) worker’s compensation insurance, and was fired while on disability, with no recourse due to a statute in Oregon law.
The very next month, she learned she had breast cancer. She had been experiencing a constant, sharp pain in a localized area of the right breast and discovered a lump. Two mammograms, an ultrasound, and a biopsy confirmed the presence of carcinoma.
The good news – with surgery and radiation, the cancer is treatable.
The bad news – mortgage is $2,500 a month. We initially set a very modest $20,000 goal to cover eight months or mortgage payments. This doesn’t account for utilities, groceries, pet food, car costs, etc. Nor does this touch the mounting pile of medical bills.
Friends - every penny makes a difference. We must raise at least $20,000 to keep Janique and her family safely in their home through January 2026, by which time Janique will be healed up and able to return to work.
So many people around the world love Janique – she’s a caregiver to children, to clients, to colleagues and friends. Janique has touched many lives through her work at the French International School of Portland and Knot Springs. But many people do not even know what’s going on or how much their support is needed.
