I am raising money for my sister Janine Mickel and her husband Rich. On January 3rd, Rich fell on some ice and had to be transported to the hospital for a back injury and multiple rib fractures. While they were running his tests, they discovered he has extensive stage 4 lung cancer with many metastasized sites. My sister Janine was forced to take a leave of absence from her teaching position at Franklin Regional School District to care for Rich. After his discharge from the hospital, Rich was having extensive pain and requiring much time with his many appointments and specialists that were called in to consult on his case. Janine was forced to retire.

Janine and Rich have many struggles trying to manage their expenses and finances. Rich has had complications with his recovery, including a mini stroke. All of these medical issues left him unable to work. Janine is taking care of Rich full time, which has put a huge stress load on her shoulders.

Rich is currently undergoing chemo and is having extreme side effects from the medications (as well as aspiration pneumonia.) leaving Janine exhausted and stressed. They really could use the support and generosity of the community in which they have lived and touched so many young minds for so many years!
