Support Janice Gaskins in Her Third Cancer Battle
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tina Engel and I am fundraising for my best friend, Janice Gaskins, and her family.
Janice and Reid Gaskins have been a staple of the Jensen Beach community for years. They own Gaskins Construction where Reid is a general contractor and Janice works for Jensen Beach Neighbors Magazine. They have two daughters, Rose who is married to Rob, and Macey. The Gaskins also run Macey’s Believers, a non-profit supporting type 1 diabetics and their families. Janice and Reid’s daughter, Macey, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 13 months old. For years they raised money for JDRF by hosting a walk team so they could contribute to finding a cure for T1D. In 2016, Macey’s Believers became a non-profit. They raise money to support research into finding a cure for T1D and to send families to the Children with Diabetes Friends for Life conference in Orlando held each summer.
Janice is usually super busy with work and wrapped up in planning Macey’s Believers events like the Gala, the yearly walk, family activities, etc. There have only been 3 times that Janice has taken time off from her fundraising efforts, and that was due to her diagnosis of breast cancer. Yes, three times. Janice first had breast cancer in 2007. She successfully fought it and was cancer free until 2020 with a second diagnosis. At this point, due to family history, she chose to have a double mastectomy along with treatment. Everyone thought that at this moment, Janice was in the clear as long as she continued to take her medications. Unfortunately, this is not the case, and now she is battling cancer for the third time. The doctors are calling her a unicorn.
I have watched Janice and Reid help and support so many in the Treasure Coast and in fact, across the country in the type 1 diabetes world. Janice has been given a coin of honor from a former surgeon general and several awards from the Children with Diabetes conference for her efforts in helping type 1 families.
Now I am asking for us to all pitch in and help the Gaskins family. Janice has to undergo aggressive chemotherapy. The side effects mean she cannot continue to work full time and Reid has to take time off work to care for her. After chemo, Janice will need to have a rare type of radiation treatment at UF Health’s Proton Therapy Institute in Jacksonville. She will have to live there for 4-6 weeks while having treatments.
Due to all of these circumstances, we want to raise money to help the Gaskins be able to cover their bills, medical expenses, and travel. I ask that you consider donating and please share this GoFundMe.
