Hi everyone, My name is Ash, and I’m organizing this fundraiser for my lifelong friend Janey during what has been one of the most overwhelming weeks of her life. On February 25, 2026, Janey gave birth to her beautiful baby boy, Rowan, by C-section. Just days later, on March 5, Janey lost her mother, Chong Suk (Sugi) Yu, after a devastating battle with stage 4 lung cancer. She was just 10 days shy of her 75th birthday, which she shared with Janey—their birthdays have always fallen on the same day, March 15. In the span of a little over a week, Janey went from welcoming her first child into the world to saying goodbye to the woman who gave her life and raised her. One small grace in the middle of this heartbreak is that Sugi was able to meet her grandson Rowan in the hospital just two days before she passed away. We truly believe she held on long enough to meet him.
Right now Janey is facing something almost unimaginable: recovering from major surgery, caring for a newborn, and grieving the loss of her mother all at once. Alongside the emotional toll, the financial pressure of laying Sugi to rest and covering burial and headstone expenses has been overwhelming. Janey would never ask for help herself, which is why I’m asking on her behalf. If you know Janey, you know how generous and caring she has always been with others. Now she is navigating an incredibly difficult transition—becoming a mother while losing her own.
If you are able to donate, share this page, or send support her way, it would mean the world during this time. Every contribution will help relieve the financial pressure of laying Sugi to rest and allow Janey the space to focus on healing and caring for her newborn son. Thank you so much for reading, sharing, and supporting Janey and baby Rowan. With gratitude, Ash
