It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Janet Greenspan. Janet was a cherished teacher at Race Brook School and a dedicated member of the Orange Public Schools community for 48 years. Throughout her remarkable career, she touched countless lives with her warmth, patience, and unwavering commitment to her students. Janet had a unique gift for making every child feel seen, valued, and inspired, creating a classroom environment filled with kindness, safety, and a true love of learning.
At Race Brook School, Janet’s influence went above and beyond the classroom. She proudly ran and organized the school newspaper, student council, and school store, creating meaningful opportunities for students to build confidence, responsibility, and a sense of community. These contributions reflect the passion and care she poured into every aspect of her work. Beyond her role as an educator, Janet was a compassionate and generous person who uplifted everyone around her. She was a mentor, a friend, and a source of constant support to her colleagues. Her impact extended far beyond the classroom, leaving a lasting imprint on the entire school community.
Janet often reminded us that “Racey Reaches Out.” Now, it is our turn to reach out for Janet. As we mourn this tremendous loss, we are coming together to support her family and help cover end-of-life expenses during this incredibly difficult time. Any contribution, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping Janet’s family in your thoughts and prayers. Janet’s legacy of love, dedication, and compassion will live on in the many lives she touched.
