Support Jane Mercer's Legal Name Change

Hi I’m Jane Mercer, a 53 year old disabled transgender woman living at a homeless shelter in Mariposa, CA. I’ve known i was transgender since i was 14 years old but due to my intense fears of societies negative treatment of transgender people in the past i only came out of the closet and started living as a woman six years ago, when i also started estrogen therapy.

I’m no longer able to work due to multiple physical and mental health problems and currently survive on a fixed income from State disability of less than $350 a month. In California to change your name and gender marker on your birth certificate you file a form with the Superior Court in your county of birth with a $453 filing fee, which I am completely unable to afford.
