Support Jane Matthews Conwell’s Cancer Fight

In August 2018, Jane Matthews Conwell was diagnosed with Stage III, Grade III triple negative breast cancer.  She started a rigorous course of chemotherapy while also taking part in The I-Spy trial at the University of Chicago Medicine. While this is not a paid trial, there are so many great benefits, including the use of pembrolizumab immunotherapy. Jane likes taking part in the trial as she hopes she can help others, especially women fighting breast cancer.

The combined treatments, in shrinking the tumor, brought on a very significant case of hypothyroidism, other autoimmune disorders, and vision and joint problems.

Her sick leave exhausted, Jane has remained independent thus far, with a small disability stipend and some assistance from family, friends, LaMoille Volleyball team and St. Margaret’s Denim Day. She is grateful to all who’ve helped her.

She is a single income family and has been unable to return to work since November.  Her employer, while being very accommodating, can no longer pay their contributions for her health insurance and in June,  she’ll be paying the full amount for coverage.

Having completed treatments, Jane is trying to gain strength through physical therapy for a bilateral/double mastectomy in late April. She’s facing many deductibles and co-pays and will need $5000 for a lymph node transplant should it become necessary during surgery.  The procedure would reduce her chance of painful lymphedema but is still considered elective and not covered by many insurances.

When Jane recovers, she will undergo 8-12 weeks of radiation and more chemotherapy if needed. It’s unknown when she’ll return to work.

We are turning to friends, neighbors and loved ones to help fund her mounting expenses and possible lymph node transplant, as the disability payments, which only partially replace her normal income, will end soon.

Jane, who is 38, is anxious to overcome the obstacles she is facing and return to her vocation of counseling.  She is a giving and loving counselor, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend.  Her sister, Maggie, her cousin, Jon, and I are hoping to ease some of the financial stress as she fights breast cancer.  She would appreciate any donations,  prayers, and loving thoughts you can pass along to her.
