Support Jan-Christian's Burn Recovery Journey

This is Mikayla, Jan-Christian’s sister, creating a gofundme on his behalf. Jan-Christian and his partner, Heather were involved in a gas explosion in Temple Georgia, on September 25th (details are pending). Jan-Christian sustained 22% burns over his body in third degree burns, in addition to more second degree burns and is in a burn ICU unit. Jan Christian has a long road ahead and needs our support. His burns are over his face, hands and some on his back and lower legs. Some parts of the burns on his hands are full thickness, meaning there was nerve damage. Currently, he has fortunately been taken off of the ventilator that was helping him breathe. Nonetheless, he will need many more surgeries.

At this time we are not sure when he will leave the hospital, but it will be at least several weeks. It’s likely he will need post-acute care after he leaves the hospital. He currently lacks medical insurance, and while we will work to get him on Medicaid, we want to reduce interruptions in care and set him up with all the services and care he will need as he recovers. We will also use funds to keep me and our mother, Hildi, here in Georgia as we live in Maine and Colorado respectively. It’s important that he has us close by while he continues to physically heal and process what he has gone through. We appreciate any and all support and will use this place to put regular updates up as well.
