Support Jana Roy After Devastating House Fire

On the morning of June 15th my mom, Jana Roy, experienced a heart breaking loss. She left her home around 6 a.m. to help with worship group at her church. Less than two hours later, she got frantic calls from neighbors that her house was on fire.

By the time she arrived, flames and smoke were pouring out of her home. A jogger and her neighbor’s son had jumped the fence and were able to pull her old pup, Kloie, to safety. The firefighters went back in and brought out her three other dogs. Sweet, but feisty, Sadie never woke up. The littlest guy, Teddy, was rushed to the vet but passed away later that night. Fortunately, Gus Gus and Kloie are still with us and doing well. All six of her birds were lost in the fire: Robert and Gracie (her beautiful rescued cockatoos); Ida and Echo (conures); Violet (Indian Ringneck); and Ruby, (crimson-breasted conure).

The fire was eventually put out and what was left was a charred, smoky, uninhabitable house. The house that my mom has lived in for over 20 years. My mom’s home, filled with love, warmth, and decades of memories, has been declared a total loss. It will likely be demolished and rebuilt which could take up to a year or two. Until she can go home, she’ll be living in a rental, starting completely from scratch. Insurance will help with some of the rebuilding, but there are many immediate and unexpected expenses — from basic essentials to emergency vet care. These immediate and long term unforeseen expenses are why I have started this fundraiser: to give my mom a little relief as she begins the journey of rebuilding her life. My mom is one of the kindest, most caring, and thoughtful people you could ever meet—always willing to help others and open her home to people and animals in need. Now, she needs our help.
