Support Jamie's Triathlon Dream in Taupō

Donation protected
I am soliciting donations to help defray the costs for an amateur athlete to compete in the 2024 70.3 World Championship in Taupō, New Zealand, this coming December. If you are unfamiliar with a 70.3, Wikipedia states the following - An Ironman 70.3, also known as a Half Ironman, is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). The "70.3" refers to the total distance in miles (113.0 km) covered in the race, consisting of a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, a 56-mile (90 km) bike ride, and a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run.

Jamie found her way into endurance sports as a tribute to her late mother, who succumbed to a rare form of spinal cancer when Jamie was young. Since then, cancer has touched other close family members. Jamie's sports journey began with the Boston Marathon, where she ran and fundraised over $20,000 on behalf of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

In 2019, Jamie shifted her focus to triathlons and quickly qualified for nationals. However, her competitive aspirations were interrupted by pandemic race cancellations and the birth of her son. Undeterred, she returned to triathlons in 2022.

This year, Jamie achieved a milestone by qualifying for the 70.3 World Championships in Taupō, New Zealand—an opportunity beyond her wildest dreams. Despite not being sponsored and unable to afford a top-tier triathlon bike, she competes with determination on an entry-level road bike. Balancing her athletic pursuits with her career and providing for her son, Jamie faces financial challenges, including steep costs for lodging and other race-related expenses.

While hesitant to seek sponsorship due to personal pride, Jamie is committed to using any donations exclusively for race necessities, not personal luxuries like sightseeing. Contributions will cover essentials such as the registration fee, bike transportation and the high cost of accommodation.

Please consider supporting Jamie in her pursuit of this long-time dream. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. Jamie appreciates your interest and support.
