Help Jamie Heal After a Stroke and Heart Surgery

Our family is reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for support for our father, Jamie, who is only 47 years old and now facing the fight of his life.

On August 20th, Jamie suffered a devastating stroke caused by a basilar artery embolism. Doctors discovered that a serious blood infection had led to endocarditis, which caused dangerous growths on his mitral valve. Fragments of this infection broke off and spread throughout his body, impacting his lungs, spleen, kidneys, and brain.

As a result of the stroke, Jamie has lost the use of the right side of his body, his vision has been affected, and he is also battling dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) and aphasia (difficulty speaking). Despite these overwhelming challenges, Jamie’s determination and spirit remain strong.

His doctors say he will need 4–6 weeks of intensive inpatient rehabilitation to help regain strength and mobility. Once he is stable enough, he will undergo open-heart surgery to replace the damaged mitral valve. This will be just the beginning of a long and difficult recovery journey.

Adding to the challenge, Jamie does not have health insurance. The cost of his hospital care, rehabilitation, and upcoming heart surgery will place an unimaginable financial burden on him and our family.
