Hey Everyone,
This is a very unique and rough time for all of us, which is why we are turning to our friends and family for help. We are rallying together for our nephew, Jamie.
In Mid-October, he was experiencing severe stomach pains. His parents, Paul and Melanie, took him to Texas Children's Hospital. It was discovered that his stomach pain was from a kidney stone. Sadly, it didn’t end there. When he was undergoing his tests to diagnose his kidney stone, his bloodwork came up abnormal. The doctors decided to perform additional testing including a spinal tap and bone marrow test. Sadly, he was diagnosed with Acute B-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This was a huge shock not only to Paul, Melanie, and Paulie (Jamie’s older brother), but to our entire family. You always hear about these situations but never expect it to be your family. It still doesn’t feel real. Everyday we all wake up and hope it was a nightmare.
Jamie didn’t have any other symptoms leading anyone to believe he had cancer. When Paul and Melanie took him to the hospital they believed it was stomach issues. Not once did they think their son might have cancer.
We have a long road ahead of us, as his Chemotherapy treatment will be on and off for 2 ½ years. He is unable to return to school this year in order to make sure his treatment goes well and he doesn’t get any viruses or infections. As a 10 year old boy, not being able to be around his friends is tough.
We are asking for donations for Jamie and his family to help ease their financial burden and worry about one less thing. We want their focus to be solely on Jamie and his path towards remission.
Thanks,
Jonathan and Denise Florentino (Jamie’s Uncle and Aunt)
